Linux - trouble loading plugins in 3.9dev

mott
Hi List, I'm attempting to use 3.9dev on Linux and I'm having trouble
loading the plugins once everything is built. I cloned the git source of
SC and built the program successfully. When I run scide it lists the
class and extension library folders as:

     compiling dir: '/usr/local/share/SuperCollider/SCClassLibrary'
     compiling dir: '/usr/local/share/SuperCollider/Extensions'

In my previous installation of 3.8, class libraries and extensions were
installed in /usr/share/SuperCollider/SCClassLibrary and
/usr/share/SuperCollider/Extensions  respectively and the plugins were
bundled in a subdirectory of the latter, named SC3plugins.

In the process of building and installing the plugins for 3.9dev from
the git sources, I use the following cmake command:

cmake -DSC_PATH=/usr/local/include/SuperCollider
-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/local -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release ..

It builds fine with make, however when I install it, it doesn't appear
where I would expect, ie. in
/usr/local/share/SuperCollider/Extensions/SC3plugins

Instead, I see in the installation printout, the following:

-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/BinaryOpUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/ChaosUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/DelayUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/DemandUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/DynNoiseUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/FilterUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/GendynUGens.so
-- Installing: /usr/local/lib/SuperCollider/plugins/GrainUGens.so

.......etc.

And the plugins are not loaded when I run scide. I can't find any new
"SC3plugins" directory.

I must be doing something wrong and can't figure out how to get it to
work. Can someone please help?

Will paste below the SC postbuffer printout from the SC IDE

Thanks,

Iain

Hi Iain.

Everything looks fine. The plugins weren't expected to be in a folder inside extensions. How do you know that the plugins are not being loaded?

Re: Linux - trouble loading plugins in 3.9dev

Hi Gil, when I boot the server and run: {VOSIM.ar(Impulse.ar(100), 500, 3, 0.99)}.play
I get a class not defined error. Same error with some ATK classes. Standard SC classes run OK.

thanks, Iain

Hum... what could that be?...
I would try turning off some Quarks to see if some of the overwritten methods are messing things up. Maybe someone out there have a better understanding of what its happening.

bests,
Gil

Yes, that is where they are also on my system. That is where scsynth
will look for them.

The class files on my system get installed to:

/usr/local/share/SuperCollider/Extensions/SC3plugins

(sclang looks for class files in /usr/local/share/SuperCollider/Extensions/)

This is determined by source/CMakeLists.txt which does

set(INSTALL_DESTINATION_DISTRO
                 "share/SuperCollider/Extensions/SC3plugins")

unless 'QUARKS' is activated, in which case it does

set(INSTALL_DESTINATION_DISTRO
                 "share/SuperCollider/SC3plugins")

So where are your sc3-plugins class files placed ? (find /usr vbap.sc)

Re: Linux - trouble loading plugins in 3.9dev

Apologies Miguel and Gil, I'd done something careless and it took me
until now to discover what it was. I had cloned the plugins inside the
supercollider directory and while I had created the build directory
inside the plugin directory I failed to cd into it before doing the
cmake step, so it used the configuration from the parent supercollider
directory. That's why I couldn't find the new plugin directory anywhere,
it hadn't been installed.

All working now!

Thanks for your help,

Iain
