SC build for iOS

Eugene Kogan
Hi list,

Relative newbie to SC. I was wondering if anyone has successfully been able to do a full build of SC for iOS?  I'm not talking just a GUI/touchOSC, but a full on SC server running on an iPad, iPhone, or for that matter, an Android device?  Assuming the phone would have to be jailbroken since nothing of the sort appears in the app store.  It would be great if it were possible to run SC synths directly from a mobile device without a laptop.  Does anyone have any info on this?

Best,
gene

There is an iPhone xcode project that comes with the supercollider source. To use it you either need a developer licence or a jailbroken device. I for one have not managed to get it to build correctly for a jailbroken iPad (also haven't tried REALLY hard) but many people have. Not currently one for Android though.

there is: https://github.com/glastonbridge/SuperCollider-Android/ -
installed it on my crappy android phone and it worked - more or less a
toy for me and the sound is glitchy resp. user-interaction doesn't quite
work as described (well, blame it on my phone) but you should be able to
send your own synthdefs from your computer to the phone (didn't quite
succeed yet) ... though, installing SC on android is easy :-P (and i'll
get me a better phone one day ...).

ps: sciss even started porting his ScalaCollider to android ...

Re: SC build for iOS

I was successfully able to get SC on my iPad using the XCode project referred to at the top here. Even used it for a few shows already with TouchOSC running on the same iPad. Worked great. Haven't tried it on iOS 4 yet though.

Do you have a dev licence or jailbreak?

Re: SC build for iOS

Scott Cazan
I went the jailbreak route (which provided the necessary backgrounding capabilities for using TouchOSC while SC ran at the same time).

Re: SC build for iOS

Scott Cazan
Oh, I should mention that I did have to repair some header paths in the XCode project file as well. I just did a compile, got all the erros and then searched for all the missing .h files to reconnect them (usually they were just spelled slightly different).

Unfortunately I didn't keep track of which files in particular but I will likely be upgrading to iOS 4.0 soon and may have to redo that.

Re: SC build for iOS

Cole Ingraham
Yeah, I've only had my iPad since 4.0 so I've always had issues with this. I was recently forced into upgrading to 4.3.2 (not going to 4.3.3 until I absolutely need to) but luckily only after the jailbreak was available. I'd be very interested in hearing how you get this set up next time =).
