server boot issue

spluta
Hi all,

I just got one of these newfangled MacBook Pros…not so sure about this “upgrade” so far.

I am having a problem booting the server that hopefully someone might have some insight into. I have narrowed it down to the server failing to start if I specify the sampleRate in the ServerOptions. If I specify the sampleRate as 44100 (which is the rate the hardware is running at anyway), the server often fails. If I specify nil, it works. I have this measure in there because of a couple of occasions where I was accidentally running my software at 96K and all kinds of problems arose. It isn’t necessary, but it saves me from the embarrassment of things not working in rare occasions when the sample rate has been set super high.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Sam

//the server often fails to start
(
Server.local.options.hardwareBufferSize_(128);
Server.local.options.sampleRate_(44100);

b = Server.new("lmi0", NetAddr("localhost", 57111), Server.local.options).boot;
c = Server.new("lmi1", NetAddr("localhost", 57112), Server.local.options).boot;
)
Server.killAll

//seems fine
(
Server.local.options.hardwareBufferSize_(128);
Server.local.options.sampleRate_(nil);

b = Server.new("lmi0", NetAddr("localhost", 57111), Server.local.options).boot;
c = Server.new("lmi1", NetAddr("localhost", 57112), Server.local.options).boot;
)
Server.killAll

Re: server boot issue

Glen Fraser
This looks like the same issue I reported...

I didn't realize it was affected by the sample rate!

Yeah. Huh. It is strange because this never happened in 3.5 years with my 2012 Macbook Pro. It is just with the new 2016.

Re: server boot issue

daniel palkowski
Biggest SR issues I run into with my MBP (and it's fairly regular) is a mismatch between input/output device sample rates. You may think you've set it, but somewhere in the background some other app may have decided to set the input rate to something you don't normally use.  E.g. half the time I go in there and even though my output rate is my usual 48k, the input has been set by something to 44100, so the server won't start, since the rates have to match.  I just go into audiomidi setup and check each from in there, and once they're made to match, SC kicks in fine, even if it's already running in the background.
